What is bakhoor and how do you use it?

Bakhoor (also spelled bukhoor) is traditional Arabic incense made from wood chips or compressed paste infused with oud oil, musk, rose, and spices. To use it, place a piece on a burning charcoal disc inside a mabkhara (incense burner). The smoke carries the fragrance through the home. In Gulf culture, bakhoor is burned before guests arrive, during family gatherings, and on special occasions like Eid and Ramadan.

What is an oud burner?

An oud burner (mabkhara) is a vessel used to burn oud wood, bakhoor, or incense. It holds a charcoal disc that heats the fragrance material, releasing aromatic smoke.
