What is bakhoor and how do you use it?

Bakhoor (also spelled bukhoor) is traditional Arabic incense made from wood chips or compressed paste infused with oud oil, musk, rose, and spices. To use it, place a piece on a burning charcoal disc inside a mabkhara (incense burner). The smoke carries the fragrance through the home. In Gulf culture, bakhoor is burned before guests arrive, during family gatherings, and on special occasions like Eid and Ramadan.

What is an oud burner?

An oud burner (mabkhara) is a vessel used to burn oud wood, bakhoor, or incense. It holds a charcoal disc that heats the fragrance material, releasing aromatic smoke. Traditional mabkhara are ornate ceramic or metal pieces central to Arabic hospitality. Placing one near the entrance or in the majlis fills the space with a deep, warm scent that signals welcome.

What is a tasbih or misbaha?

A tasbih (also called misbaha or prayer beads) is a string of 33, 66, or 99 beads used in Islamic devotion for dhikr. Beyond spiritual use, misbaha are carried daily across the Arab world as a meditative tool and cultural accessory. Naqsh Luxury offers tasbih in gemstones and agate as both devotional items and refined gifts.

What does oud smell like?

Oud (agarwood) has a rich, complex scent that is deep and woody with sweet, smoky, and slightly animalic notes. It is one of the most prized fragrance ingredients in the world, central to Arabian perfumery. Indian oud is darker and earthier, while Cambodian oud is sweeter and more resinous. Oud is used in perfumes, candles, diffuser oils, and burned directly as incense.
